RIVERS WE CARRY, MOUNTAINS WE SEEK
Martina Lajczak
Over the past three years, I’ve been working on this project, building a body of work that explores Eastern European, specifically Polish, women’s migrant experiences in Austria.
Moving between photography, sculpture, and archival fragments, the exhibition unfolds as a reflection on migration, memory, and belonging. Centered around diasporic narratives, the works trace what is carried across generations and borders: stories, gestures, longings and hardships as well as quiet forms of resistance.
It invites viewers to navigate shifting identities shaped by movement, assimilation, and cultural inheritance, between what is remembered, what is forgotten, and what is still taking shape.
